my bro was working on a video and there was this song.. and then ms hazel mentioned it in a GP lesson also.. it must have carried a special message..

ok. i don't really know how to express this right now. maybe i'll write an essay or comment on this or smthing. in any case, i'll just leave two rather long attachments here for you to read. PLEASE DO READ THIS! if you think that all my blogging is rubbish, please at least take the time to read something that i copied and pasted from somewhere else. what someone else has to say.

can we continue the transition of a me generation into a we generation?

We Are the World
A song that helped millions and ignited the spirit of a nation and the world.

We are the children. When the footage of Ethiopian famine victims first appeared on television, it touched the conscience of the world. It opened a floodgate of generosity that seemed to signal the transformation of the me generation into the we generation.

Just a few days before Christmas in 1984, Harry Belafonte saw a bleak news report on the African famine that included an interview with an Australian doctor who had volunteered for service in Ethiopia. A line of sick, malnourished children stretched for thousands of yards outside his tent. When asked "How can you handle working in these conditions, when the problem seems so massive, almost irreversible? How can you get up every day to face such an awesome task?" The doctor replied, "I take them one at a time."

For Belafonte, it was a calling. Feeling that American artists must do their part to ease the pain and devastation of the African famine, he contacted Ken Kragen, who managed entertainment superstars, and they quickly decided to record a song with all royalties going to the help alleviate the crises in Africa. There would be no artist or agent fees and no manager percentages. It was a labor of the heart and spirit.

Kragen contacted Lionel Richie, who called Michael Jackson and Stevie Wonder. Michael Jackson called Quincy Jones. In short order, Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie wrote the song, "We Are The World," and Quincy Jones produced it. The recording session was scheduled to piggy-back the American Music Awards, and on January 28, 1985—only weeks after Harry Belafonte's initial call, 45 musical superstars recorded "We Are The World."

At the same time, public interest attorney Marty Rogol was designing an organization to distribute the proceeds of the project to stricken Africa. In a remarkable 20 short days, United Support of Artists for Africa (USA for Africa) was born.

"We Are The World" was a phenomenon unlike any before. The single, released March 8, 1985, became the quickest selling record in music industry history. In addition, an album, filled with songs from many of the recording session superstars, was released to another exceptional response. All royalties – millions -- were destined to save lives in Africa.

The world opened its heart to those in need in Africa. Two radio disc-jockeys organized the global simulcast of "We Are The World" on Good Friday, 1985 and were joined by 8,000 of their colleagues. Second grade students at a school in Colorado donated money earned as incentives for reading -- 5 cents per book. It totaled $3.57 in cash but symbolized a million dollars of unselfish concern. A young people's church group in Pennsylvania held an eight-hour fast and collected $85 for famine victims. Young and old, rich and poor, all races and all religions —took action. It was humanity at its finest during the African famine of 1984-5.

USA for Africa has kept its commitment that all royalties and donations generated by the recording of "We Are The World" go directly to assist those in need—90% to Africans and 10% to the hungry and homeless in America. More than $62 million has been distributed to projects in Africa and the United States as a result of the generosity of people around the world.
Much was done, but there is still much to do.

We are the world - USA for Africa

There comes a time, when we heed a certain call
When the world must come together as one
There are people dying
And it's time to lend a hand to life
The greatest gift of all

We can't go on pretending day by day
That someone, somewhere will soon make a change
We are all a part of God's great big family
And the truth you know and
Love is all we need

chorus:
We are the world, we are the children
We are the ones who make a brighter day
So let's start giving
There's a choice we're making
We're saving our own lives
It's true, we'll make a better day, just you and me

Send them your heart so they know that someone cares
And their lives will be stronger and free
As God has shown us by turning stone to bread
And so we all must lend a helping hand

When you're down and out, there seems no hope at all
But if you just believe there's no way we can fall
Let us realize that a change can only come
When we stand together as one

It's true we make better days just you and me

something's wrong with my template.. no links, no tagboard.. hope it gets back soon.. lazy to go change template..

still sick..

what rocks is not having to spend 80% of sunlight time in school.. haha. the new timetable means ending school at 1.30 for tues, wed, thurs.. and 2.00 for monday and 3.30 for friday with econs remedial.. the downside? judo training on tues and thurs at 4.30... so i dun get to enjoy the two early days. and i don't really have a life. though i end early, i can't go anywhere and must be disciplined to go home and study.. still, it rocks to finish even earlier than sec school ppl. :)

don't really wanna skip sch again coz of sickness. coz school's moving really fast now.. missing sch for a day means missing a major load of stuff.. and i don't wanna play catch up. and this term's a really bad term to miss sch coz they wanna finish the syllabus this term. so yeaa.. endure!

should i seek help in my studies or not? i think i do need some help, particularly in math, coz mr ho seng chye is always in a grumpy mood and i'll be branded a class traitor shud i approach him for consultation.. haha. but still, friend who helps me in tuition seems kinda busy. ok i'll just have to wait and see.

and i've been dreaming about the same person for two or three nights straight.. how? kinda freaky, but sigh. dreamland seems to be better than reality for this.

and signing off, i'd like to tell u that this dude, Jesus loves you! and if u're reading this, He's telling u to keep in touch. chill.
